Poster Contest

The Optimist Club of Des Plaines will once again be taking part in the Illinois Districts anti-drug poster contest.

This years theme echoes the international presidents theme of love and is Love, Not Drugs.

The contest is open to 3rd and 4th grade students who live with the Des Plaines zip codes.

Posters must be submitted on 12 x 18 horizontal poster board, and the students name, age, grade and school must be on the back. Posters with the name on the front will not be accepted. When our club selects the boy and girl winner, we will need the social security numbers of the students. This is because they are then sent on for state wide judging, and prizes of United States Savings Bonds in the amounts of $200.00, $100.00 and $50.00 are given to the winners. The numbers are destroyed after the bonds are purchased.

The following rules and tips will be helpful:

The words Love Not Drugs must appear on the front of the poster, and it must be 12 x 18.

Keep writing to a minimum. Dark colored, blocked or printed letters are the best.

You can use markers, colored paper, tempera paint, or pictures from magazines-fill in as much of the poster as you can.

The Des Plaines club is arranging for the winners work to be displayed in a public venue, such as city hall or the library. Information will be sent to the schools in March.
